Privacy Policy

Reel Palate is a free, personal project built and operated by Luke Inglis. This policy explains what data the app collects, how it is used, and your rights regarding that data.

What we collect

Email address and authentication tokens (via Supabase Auth, including Google OAuth)
Movie and TV ratings you submit
Taste preferences: quiz answers, genre preferences, mood selections
Elo ranking scores and comparison history
Watchlist entries
Letterboxd import data (if you choose to import)

What we do not collect

Payment information
Location data
Browsing history outside the app

How your data is used

To generate personalized recommendations: your rated titles (names and genres, not personal identifiers) are sent to Anthropic Claude's API to produce suggestions
To build and refine your taste profile
To power the Elo ranking system

Your data is never sold, shared with advertisers, or used for any commercial purpose. There is no advertising, no tracking pixels, and no data selling.

Third-party services

Reel Palate uses the following third-party services:

Supabase : database and authentication
TMDB : movie and TV catalog data
Anthropic : AI-powered recommendations
Vercel : hosting and deployment
Plausible Analytics : privacy-focused usage statistics (no cookies, no personal data)

Each service has its own privacy policy. Your data is shared with these services only to the extent necessary for the app to function.

Cookies

Reel Palate uses only authentication session cookies required for sign-in functionality. No advertising or third-party tracking cookies are used.

Plausible Analytics is used for basic usage statistics. It does not use cookies and does not collect personal data.

Data retention and deletion

Your data is kept for as long as your account exists. You can delete your account and all associated data from the Profile page. You can also request deletion by contacting luke@lukeinglis.me. If the service is discontinued, all user data will be deleted within 30 days of shutdown.

International users

Reel Palate is hosted and processes data in the United States via Vercel and Supabase. If you are located in the European Union, United Kingdom, or other regions with data protection laws, you have rights regarding your personal data, including the right to access, correct, delete, or export your data. The legal basis for processing your data is your consent, provided by using the app. To exercise any of these rights, contact luke@lukeinglis.me.
